The First Appointment

The first appointment with the counselor is an initial consultation. The purpose of the initial consultation is to gather detailed information about what prompted you to schedule the appointment.

The 咨询 Center offers short-term, goal focused counseling. We us a flexible care model to address various problems and concerns. At the conclusion of the initial consultation, the counselor will identify the appropriate next steps and discuss the best treatment options available to you for your specific concerns.

The flexible care model includes the following options:

Connections with 体育菠菜大平台 resources that support academic success
Informational online self-help resources
Referral to the practicum clinic in the 体育菠菜大平台咨询 & School Psychology Department
Single session consultation for immediate problem-solving
Intensive individual weekly counseling sessions at the 体育菠菜大平台咨询 Center
Individual counseling sessions every other week or monthly basis
Participation in a therapeutic group
Referral to a community mental health provider for open-ended therapeutic treatment
Referral to a medical provider for psychiatric consultation

All services at the 咨询 Center are by appointment. Please call us at (308) 865-8248 to schedule an appointment or stop by our office between the hours of 8am and 5 pm, located in the Memorial Student Affairs Building, 144房间.

If you are in immediate crisis or having thoughts of suicide, please call or come to our office and let us know. We will connect you with a counselor as soon as possible for a brief safety assessment.

The first appointment will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Please note, if you are 15 minutes late to the first appointment, you may be asked to reschedule in the next available opening.

Telehealth counseling sessions are available on a limited basis for students who do not reside in or near Kearney.
